An appeals court in North Carolina ruled today that Mike Pressler, the former men’s lacrosse coach at Duke University, may pursue a slander lawsuit against the university and a former spokesman. Duke’s lawyers had sought to require Mr. Pressler, who was fired in 2006 and reached a settlement with the university in 2007, to resolve his claims through arbitration.

go Mike; good on ya! You deserve every cent you get and public recantations would be nice also, particularly by faculty.

This decision is wonderful. It should finally move high ranking officials and other tag along “know it alls” to titrate their loud mouths from “full speed ahead” to “caution”. Ever since we have entered into the era of “Rush to Judgement” and/or “Get Myself a National Interview”, individuals like Mike Presser have had their lives turned upside down, if not ruined. This is the icing on the huge and very expensive cake that Duke has had to dish out, first to the wrongly acccused players and now to their coach. This Judge deserves a major promotion.

Absolutely delighted to learn of this.

Seems the comments so far are no different than what caused the problem in the first place. Maybe we should all wait until the lawsuit is settled before we make any judgments about the merits of this claim.
