A Cornell University student has died of swine flu, making him among the first of the thousands of American college students who have contracted the illness to die of it. In a statement issued on Friday afternoon, the university’s president, David Skorton, said that the student, Warren J. Schor, had died of “complications related to H1N1 influenza,” as the flu is formally known. A Cornell spokesman told the Associated Press that privacy rules prohibited him from discussing whether other health problems might have contributed to the death of Mr. Schor, a 20-year-old from Clinton Corners, N.Y. A survey this week by the American College Health Association found that three out of four colleges were reporting swine flu on their campuses, some 5,000 cases in all, but as yet no deaths.
