Controversial Auburn U. Trustee Won’t Seek Another Term

Robert E. (Bobby) Lowder, whose 28 years as an Auburn University trustee have been fraught with controversy, has withdrawn his name from consideration for another term on the university’s board. Mr. Lowder was recently nominated by Auburn’s Trustee Selection Committee for a seven-year term, but a lawsuit filed by a former Auburn Alumni Association president challenged the process by which Mr. Lowder and other nominees had been selected.

    This is unequivocally good news fro Auburn. Lowder has cast a pall over the university, jeopardizing academic integrity in favor of sports….and rampant influence by sports donors.

    The article should expand upon the statement that Lowder’s work on the board has been “fraught with controversy”.  Readers — like me — who are unfamiliar with his history have no idea why he is controversial or whether his withdrawal is good for Auburn.

     He may have threatened sports too.  There are those who think he was instrumental in the firing of Tommy Tuberville.  Fortunately a good coach replaced him, but……
