A private institution based in the San Francisco Bay area was created as a sham university to help foreign nationals acquire student visas and stay in the country illegally, the U.S. attorney in San Francisco alleged in a federal complaint filed this week, according to the Contra Costa Times. The institution, Tri-Valley University, states on its Web site that it is “a Christian higher-education institution” offering degree programs in a range of fields, including business, engineering, law, and medicine. The newspaper’s calls to Tri-Valley were not returned.
