Days before bids are due in a competition to create a new engineering campus in New York City, Stanford University and the City University of New York anounced today that they would establish a collaborative engineering program on the grounds of CUNY’s City College as a precursor to Stanford’s bid. Less than two weeks ago, CUNY’s vice chancellor for research, Gillian Small, told The Chronicle that CUNY would be a “fully fledged partner” with another bidder, New York University, and that it was “absolutely committed” to the consortium NYU was putting together for its bid. CUNY says it plans to bid with both.
