Chinua Achebe, Renowned Author and Professor, Dies at 82

Chinua Achebe, the acclaimed Nigerian author and professor whose 1958 novel Things Fall Apart is a fixture on college syllabi worldwide, has died after a brief illness, according to an obituary in The New York Times. He was 82.

Mr. Achebe, whose work is credited with playing a central role in the development of African literature, was most recently a professor at Brown University, where he joined the faculty in 2009. He taught at Bard College for 19 years before moving to Brown.
