Roman Catholic colleges have been “astonished and sometimes befuddled” by an influx of Muslim students in the last few years, according to today’s Washington Post. The article, citing UCLA’s Higher Education Research Institute, says that last year Catholic colleges had a higher percentage of Muslim students than did the average four-year institution. Many Christian colleges, both Catholic and Protestant, have created prayer spaces and interfaith groups to welcome students of different faiths, including Muslims. Georgetown University, which is Jesuit, has had a full-time Muslim chaplain since 1999, according to the article, and Duke University, which is associated with the United Methodist Church, recently hired one.

I don’t understand the title’s reference to “struggle” at all. The Post article suggests that Catholic schools have been generally welcoming to Muslim students. This is not all that surprising since practicing Muslims may find that they have more in common with religious institutions than they have with secular ones.

Value-centered institutions would be attractive to Muslim students? No surprise here.

In Israel, Bar-Ilan University, the only officially religious Jewish institution, enrolls a higher percentage of Muslim women than any other Israeli university. Loyola University of Chicago has a sizeable enrollment of both Muslims and observant Jews. People of conservative religious persuasions tend to find religious institutions more respectful of their culture and values than highly secularized ones tend to be.

Except for the
fund-raising events of family get-together, inflatable tents also are great for
weddings where you can order a more casual style tent. You will feel confident
in the event if mother nature starts pouring her heart out in the form of rain
and wind, your guests will be protected. http://www.madeinflatable.com

Is there a happier story running anywhere on the Internet today? Bravo to Dr. Donoghue and his team for restoring hope to the hundreds of thousands of individuals who will forever benefit from his dazzling work. Anyone who doubts the importance of funding the sciences needs only to look to this great story.

the much overused word “amazing” should be reserved for stories like this!
