The Career Education Corporation, which operates American InterContinental University and several other colleges that offer programs in health care and culinary arts, has announced that it would begin laying off about 600 people. The cuts come just weeks after two other major higher-education operators, Kaplan Higher Education and the Apollo Group, each made layoffs of similar scope.
