The California Legislature approved a bill on Monday to give University of California employees who are fired for reporting wrongdoing or unsafe conditions the right to sue the university for damages, the San Francisco Chronicle reported. The legislation, which now awaits the governor’s signature, came in response to a state Supreme Court ruling last year that found the state’s whistle-blower law shielded the university from monetary claims as long as it conducted its own investigation.
