Cal State-San Bernardino Professor Is Sought After Drug Raid on His Home

September 2, 2011, 12:03 am

An associate professor of kinesiology at California State University at San Bernardino is being sought by law-enforcement authorities who say he led a methamphetamine drug ring and the local chapter of a motorcycle gang, the Los Angeles Times reported. A drug task force raided the home of the professor, Stephen Kinzey, last week and seized weapons and drugs, authorities said. The university’s president, Albert Karnig, said in a written statement that the campus police would assist in the investigation “to help assure that all the facts are accurate.” He added: “If the allegations are indeed true, this is beyond disappointing.”

In this case it might have helped the university to check ‘ratemyprofessor’ where the students suddenly started mentioning he came in late, didn’t care about classes, etc. recently after great comments in earlier years.

I’m sorry that this is a bit off topic but I have to ask. A professor is accused of using a violent gang to help him run a drug ring and the press release describes it as “beyond disappointing.” Really? How far beyond? And just what would a professor have to do for them to be “saddened by the news?”

Postpone judgment. An allegation is not a conviction.

But the drugs and the weapons in his house are real, not imaginary.

Interesting that there is no mention of this associate professor on the “People” section of CSU-SB’s Kinesiology Department’s website as of today where all the other professors (both full-time and adjunct) are listed.

So? 1) Weapons are not always illegal, 2) drugs are not yet a proof of the crime of leading a gang ring, 3) quantity of drugs matters, 4) there was another person living in the same home, 5) not all evidence seized is always admissible in court.
    Postpone judgment.

Is he doing “undercover” research in some particular area?  Might be plausible, but then, again, might not.

sally, relying on ratemyprofessor.com to assess an instructor’s teaching ability is a crime (no pun intended).  virtue is boring, the other person living in the house is none other than his domestic partner, a cal state san bernardino grad, who is also his business partner.

This is from my daughter, who looked up to him so much in years past: I wish i could tell Steve he’s hurt everyone who loves him. If i could talk to him i would tell him i love him and i wish he would turn himself in because he can’t go down like this. I wish he never stopped talking to my dad because if he was still friends with dad he wouldnt have done this. Hes just hurting more people than he thinks.
Our concern is that he could lose his life trying to get away.

Wow, I feel like my life as a professor is rather dull after reading about this.
