Brown Will Raise Tuition and Cut Additional Jobs Next Year

February 27, 2010, 10:00 pm

Brown University’s trustees on Saturday approved a budget for the 2011 fiscal year that raises tuition, increases enrollment, and eliminates additional jobs—but also gives raises to faculty and staff members. The budget also makes some increases available for research and for construction projects supported by donors, The Providence Journal reported. The university, which saw 139 employees accept early-retirement offers last fall, doesn’t know yet how many more jobs will have to be trimmed this year, officials said. Brown’s president, Ruth J. Simmons, said that because the institution’s endowment has decreased by $740-million, the gap between income and revenue is “substantial.”

And again students bear the brunt of the institutional excesses and bad management…how innovative. Only proves that in their Ivy arrogance they are as incompetent at managing their resources as most other schools. Here’s are a couple of clues…1. Fire all the “fiscal managers”. Obviously they have been spending more time ordering their next BMW with the deluxe Ralph Lauren or Euro-Style color schemes than with the school ledgers. That cut alone should save Brown MILLIONS.2. Disband their racist “diversity” goon squad. Their agenda is one of the most racist, faux-Marxist, 8o’s make-believe-victim, hate-whitey rats’ nests in the country. Oh yeah and they call it “3rd World”, no less. The only thing “3rd” about that pack is the number of helpings they come back for at the all-you-can-eat diversity buffet at their annual “How Can We Cry More About Our Fictitious Oppression Without Being Too Obvious”. This should save millions.3. Then fire all their hangers-on “minority” deans who haven’t had a creative, non-racist thought in decades, but I guess commuting to their all-white suburban enclaves takes some concentration, what with texting for Chinese take-out at 80 MPH. More millions saved here. 4.Fire the President’s speech writers. With all that “education” behind her. She should be able to at least write a grocery list at Whole Foods without an editor. At least 200K saved here when you count all the “perks” for her own private Shakespeare.5. Trim the Presidents bottomless budget. Endless conference show-casing and parading costs a lot of money.6.Tear-down that campus ghetto/tribute to Che Guevara, the “3rd World Center”…it is so 80s and so very very tired. The land could then be used to build something useful for ALL students and not for just the anointed “diversity” victims from prep schools in New England. Millions in development potential here. Maybe some dorms for students who can’t afford their housing bills after paying the new tuition raises and the raises for administration. 7.Take down the fake inclusive web-sites that promote Brown’s commitment to “diversity” as much as the food court at the mall does.

Or just one who (bitterly) didn’t get into Brown. Thirty years ago. Sad.

@honore: LOL!!! I really needed that this morning. Ahhh. You remind me of Monty Python, the neo-con version. Thanks for the laughs.

Just to clarify: The University offered an early retirement incentive last fall, and 139 employees chose to retire. They have chosen retirement dates in April or June of 2010. The 139 jobs were not cut, however. Many of the vacancies created by retirements will be filled by new or current employees.
