The Mississippi University for Women will not be changing its name anytime soon, as a State Senate committee declined to advance authorizing legislation, according to The Clarion-Ledger, a newspaper in Jackson, Miss. The institution, affectionately known as “the W,” has admitted men since 1982, and its president is among those who think a more gender-inclusive name is essential to attracting more students.
