Two months after Bethany University officials announced that the small private college would close, another Christian institution—Olivet University, of San Francisco—is planning to take over its campus, the San Jose Mercury News reported. Bethany officials confirmed that a deal to sell the 60-acre campus, in Scotts Valley, Calif., was pending, but declined to discuss the details. Bethany, the oldest of the 19 Assemblies of God colleges, was founded in 1919. Olivet is affiliated with the Evangelical Assembly of Presbyterian Churches and is accredited by the Association for Biblical Higher Education. Dene Bustichi, mayor of Scotts Valley, said Olivet had its finances in order and was planning to move ahead with campus maintenance and construction projects that Bethany officials had abandoned, including a new cafeteria and student center.
