Albany State U. President Is Accused of Ignoring Human-Research Safeguards

Everette J. Freeman, president of Albany State University, disregarded cautions by the Georgia university’s institutional review board in a project in which students collected samples of their own DNA, The Albany Journal reports. Mr. Freeman, who directed the project, did not obtain proper consent, the newspaper reports. He has responded that the project did not use students as research subjects and thus did not require an elaborate consent process or review-board approval.
