Federal and state investigators raided administrative and finance offices at California’s Sonoma State University on Thursday morning as part of an investigation of allegations of misappropriation of grant money, according to The Press Democrat, a newspaper in Sonoma County. A local prosecutor said the case involved “tens of millions” of dollars that went to a now-defunct institute at the university. The institute was closed in 2007 after a state audit raised questions about its finances, the newspaper reported. Sonoma State’s president said that the investigation was limited to the institute and that it was initiated by the university.
