Adrian College has reached a settlement with the U.S. Department of Education over wide-ranging inequities between its men’s and women’s athletic programs, the Title IX Blog reports. The report notes that the small Michigan college, which in recent years has devoted significant resources to building up its athletic program, has agreed to remedy shortcomings in every area regulated by Title IX, the federal gender-equity law. The college has agreed, among other things, to add at least one women’s team in 2012, renovate several facilities serving female athletes, and improve hiring practices to attract more-qualified coaches of women’s teams.
