The National Association for College Admission Counseling has posted an analysis of public comments on its proposal to bar its members from paying commissions to overseas student recruiters. The admissions group backed away from instituting an immediate prohibition, but its decision to appoint a panel to recommend ethical standards for best practices in international recruitment is sure to keep the contentious issue simmering. Indeed, the newly released summary shows how divisive the debate is—while nearly all high-school counselors submitted comments in support of a ban, more than half of all college-admissions officers opposed it.
