Accused of Harassment and Placed on Leave, Berkeley Dean Resigns

Sujit Choudhry, dean of the University of California at Berkeley’s law school, has resigned from the post one day after it was announced that he would take an indefinite leave of absence. Mr. Choudhry has been accused of sexual harassment by his former executive assistant, Tyann Sorrell.

The school announced the resignation in a tweet on Thursday:

The university said on Wednesday that Mr. Choudhry would return to his faculty post. It also released a redacted version of the report into Mr. Choudhry’s behavior.

Ms. Sorrell accused Mr. Choudhry in a lawsuit of, among other things, hugging and kissing her. After its investigation, the university docked Mr. Choudhry’s salary by 10 percent and ordered him to write a letter of apology to Ms. Sorrell, among other requirements.
