The Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, one of the nation’s major regional accrediting organizations, is asking Everest College Phoenix to explain why its accreditation should not be revoked, Corinthian Colleges, Everest’s parent company, announced today. The move comes two months after the accreditor’s review panel rejected an evaluation team’s recommendation that the college lose its accreditation, recommending continued probation instead. The college has until March 21 to present its case to the commission.

The team’s recommendation should have been confirmed. Another example of a regional accrediting body being unable tio make the tough but correct decision. It’s just an invitation for congress to get its nose back under the accrediting commissions tent.
