Academics and College Officials Appointed to Obama Panel on Hispanic Education

Seven people from academe, including the University of Texas system’s chancellor, Francisco G. Cigarroa, are members of a new presidential commission looking to raise academic achievement among Hispanic students. The professors and administrators are among 15 people appointed by President Obama to his Advisory Commission on Educational Excellence for Hispanics, the White House announced today. Mr. Obama has said that raising Hispanic Americans’ college-graduation rates, which are lower than the national average, is crucial to meeting his goal of increasing American graduation rates over all to the highest in the world by 2020.
