5 Women’s Colleges and State Dept. to Foster Public Service by Women

Five top women’s colleges are teaming up with the U.S. State Department to encourage more women around the world to engage in public service and political leadership. According to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who spoke about the partnership on Friday, the effort—which brings together Barnard, Bryn Mawr, Mount Holyoke, Smith, and Wellesley Colleges—will also include work to improve governance, expand civil rights, and fight corruption. Ms. Clinton, a Wellesley alumna, described the Women and Public Service Initiative at the Women in the World Stories and Solutions Conference, in New York. The project will get off the ground at a colloquium this fall at Bryn Mawr.
