4 More People Charged With Visa Fraud in Connection to Alleged Sham University

Four people have been charged with visa fraud in a federal court in Oakland, Calif., as part of a case against Tri-Valley University, an alleged sham university accused of admitting foreign students so they could remain in the United States on student visas while not requiring them to attend classes, reports the San Francisco Chronicle. The four defendants pleaded not guilty. Tri-Valley was raided by federal agents in January and shut down, and its president was charged with visa fraud and other violations in May. A Chronicle investigation found that other colleges exploit federal regulations, enrolling almost exclusively foreign students and offering them a chance to work legally in the United States.
