October 31, 2011, 3:01 pm

The Commission on Presidential Debates announced today the four colleges and universities that will play host to the three presidential and one vice-presidential debates during the 2012 election. The nonpartisan, nonprofit commission said the presidential debates will be held at the University of Denver, in Colorado (October 3); Hofstra University, in New York (October 16); and Lynn University, in Florida (October 22). The vice-presidential debate will take place at Centre College, in Kentucky (October 11). Washington University in St. Louis, which has been involved in the debates since 1992, will serve the backup site.

    No public schools good enough?

Congratulations, I guess, to these four institutions. Unfortunately, these debates become so much less informative and enlightening with each election cycle. They now mostly consist of sound bites, evasions, perfect hair, and 30-second solutions to everything from job creation to peace in the Middle East. By 2012, I expect the questions to revolve around episodes of Jersey Shore.

WashU “will serve the backup site.” Pizza? Brownies? W(h)ine coolers (for candidates only)?

I bet they’d rather serve AS the backup site, rather than providing food service to that as yet undisclosed location.

they cannot afford the costs of hosting…

Too many private institutions grow and groom politicians! This is the reason private institutions cannot compete in the bids to host presidential and vice presidential debates. The political and economic forces continue to infect and plague the American politics.
