3 Lacrosse Players at Sacred Heart U. Face Assault-Related Charges

November 24, 2009, 8:59 pm

Connecticut prosecutors have charged three lacrosse players at Sacred Heart University with “conspiracy to commit first-degree sexual assault,” but a lawyer for one of the accused athletes says the accusations are a gross exaggeration, the Associated Press reported. The lawyer said all three men have been suspended from the team and university. The university declined to comment specifically on the case but said its policy calls for automatic suspensions when such accusations are made.

Be very careful with this situation SHU. You certainly don’t want another Duke University disaster at your doorstep.

Whatever the circumstances of the case they will be born out and the appropriate action will be taken. And yes, as was indicated in the above comment I’m sure SHU will proceed with caution thanks to the Duke case. What disturbs me most are the comments attributed to the attorney for one of the student-athlets. He states the charges “…were a gross exaggeration of alcohol-fueled hijinks.” He later states this was a case of “sophomoric, college boy antics”. This guy is so far off base that he and his comments are an insult to both higher education and the legal profession. Let’s see what the investigation uncovers and watch for the final word from the SHU student judicial process.
