Sen. Claire McCaskill, a Democrat of Missouri, released on Wednesday the results of a national survey on colleges’ handling of cases of sexual assault. Three findings stood out:
- Of the surveyed institutions, 41 percent said they had not conducted any investigations into sexual assault during the preceding five years.
- Of the same group, 22 percent said they had given their athletics departments oversight of sexual-assault cases involving athletes.
- And 43 percent of surveyed institutions said they were under federal investigation for noncompliance with Clery Act requirements for handling sexual violence.
