I drove a school bus during my college years.  It actually WAS a fun job and there are even times when I miss it a little.  As an education major, it was valuable experience, and having that CDL meant I was always employable in a pinch.

Ironic that she recoiled at the prospect of “scraping plates in the dining hall” (my campus job back in the 80s) but then wound up having to clean vomit from a bus.

Maybe.  But vomit is a small and relatively rare part of the job.  Scraping plates is every day, all day.  I’ll take the vomit and say “thank you.”
