A question that comes to mind is if “true beauty” is confidence, why is there a swimsuit portion to the competition? Why is this young woman not “a beauty queen?” Like too many young women today, she fails to grasp the damage of her own participation in her own objectification. After all, she has control of how the judges and audience oogle her, right? And she did get money, right? So it must be just fine.

Winning a scholarship to Western Arizona is sort of like winning a Bronze in the Special Olympics.
