The week in review

September 7, 2009, 11:37 pm

On Wednesday, September 9, ProfHacker.com will get its 1.0 facelift.  Stay tuned this week for a contest, for our first podcast (with a Very. Special. Guest), more new writers, and other goodies!

Last week, we welcomed Amy Cavender to the crew–see her first post here, on using Google Docs even when colleagues need paper.

George and I reflected on how to decide when change is necessary: by looking at the past, and by asking who will benefit.  Natalie Houston offered simple ways to improve your workflow: first, a timer, and then, using that timer, a 1-minute mental reboot. Other posts included a tribute to Dropbox, an intro to WordPress plug-ins, and a reminder that it always, always pays to have a plan B.

This week also featured three new entries in the ProfHacker 101 series: my basic introductions to RSS feeds and to wikis, and Julie Meloni’s gentle introduction to the use of APIs. (Look for updates on wikis and APIs this week!)

Don’t forget to follow @ProfHacker on Twitter.  Thanks for reading!

(The image is, if I understand it right, a picture from a guy who uses his front door as a Getting Things Done sketchpad.  On the one hand, I think this is a little awesome; on the other hand, I’m pretty sure our six-year-old would shred this in about an hour.)

Actually, that’s why George and I pushed the launch back to tomorrow. We figured, ‘what better way to pay tribute to the dude who outed the site to Twitter?’

(I even wanted to push back the launch until next Tuesday, since that’s my birthday . . . but this week seemed like a better choice. I guess.)

If profhacker.com is launching tomorrow, and tomorrow is my birthday, does that make us twins?

Boone Gorges - September 8, 2009 at 9:44 am

I’m touched.

Hmm–there seem to be a lot of September birthdays amongst Team ProfHacker and friends (I’m September as well). Is there some sort of conspiracy afoot here?

I’m September! And I turn 40 this year, so it’s a biggie to be celebrated. Wanna delay until then?

And it’s not a conspiracy. It’s the Virgo mentality at work. What other sign cares more about productivity?

psh. CAPRICORN. 12/30/73 in the house. :)

I would wager that September has more birthdays than any month. It is about 9 months before the New Year. :)

Youngster! :)

I’m September as well. Turned 30 on the 6th.
