A couple of weeks ago, we debuted a photo series called “Share Your Space.” Here’s what I wrote then:
Office space is a perennial hot topic in higher education. Who’s got a new building? Who’s sharing offices? Who doesn’t have an office at all? Who uses their car as their office? The coffee shop? &c. And there’s no better way to start a fight in a department than to open up a large-ish office and ask who should have it.
To help scratch that itch–and also to document the myriad spaces in which faculty members work in higher education–Prof. Hacker invites photos of your workspace. Preferably annotated, like my desk, or like Jeremy Boggs’s.
There are two fun ways to play:
- If you’re on Flickr–and we’ll have a post soon about why you might want to be–you can add your photo to the Prof. Hacker Flickr group.
If you’re not on Flickr, just e-mail me the pic and a short description.
We’re now ready to put some skin in this game: Send in an annotated picture of your work space–majestic or dismal, well-appointed or kludged together–by Friday, September 25, and you could win a copy of Ken Bain’s What the Best College Teachers Do. (We’ll post our favorites in a variety of categories, and the ProfHacker team will select one winner.)
This will be a monthly giveaway, with different books each month. The goal, in addition to having some fun, is to document the variety of spaces and resources for faculty work around the country.
Thanks for playing!

Well, absolutely nothing can beat the stunning photo that graces this entry!
Of course, it’s ineligible.

Well, I’m assuming this doesn’t count because it is in my house. But it is where I do most of my work….

I can’t see why a home space should be discounted! After all, not everyone reading this will have an office at an institution . . . .

I’m in. Does it matter that there are four distinct spaces where I do my work?

Nope–I think that’s true for others, too!
