Android for Academics

DescriptionOver the last year, we’ve written a fair bit about mobile applications for both iOS and Android devices.

Some of these mobile applications are especially designed for academics. For example, Jason and Ryan have both written about the Attendance app for iOS.

Android users needn’t feel left out. In fact, there’s a website devoted to academic tools for the Android platform (called, appropriately enough, Android for Academics).

In addition to the four applications they currently have available (Grade Book for Professors, Attendance, Grade Ticker, and Grade Rubric), they’ve also provided a handy list of Android tips and tricks.

You can get a sense of how Grade Book for Professors works in the video below:

Like many members of Team ProfHacker, the folks at Android for Academics appear to be fans of All Things Google; both Grade Book for Professors and Attendance integrate with Google Spreadsheets, and Grade Ticker and Grade Rubric integrate with Grade Book. Before making use of these apps, be sure to consider what you’re comfortable keeping in the cloud, and check out your institution’s FERPA policy if needed.

What about you? Have you tried any of the apps from Android for Academics, or found other, similar apps for the Android platform? Please share your thoughts about them in the comments!
