Two Academics Among National Book Award Winners

Two academics were among the winners in the National Book Awards, taking prizes for poetry and fiction.

Terrance Hayes, a professor of English at Carnegie Mellon University, won for his poetry collection Lighthead (Penguin). The university has uploaded a video reading by Hayes on youtube.

Jaimy Gordon, a professor of English at Western Michigan University, won for her novel of the low-end racetrack, Lord of Misrule (McPherson & Company). Listen to Gordon read on National Public Radio.
