Who Will Be UMass-Amherst’s Next Chancellor?

July 25, 2007, 12:06 pm

Evan Dobelle, who was fired several years ago from his job as president of the University of Hawaii, and Richard Freeland, a former president of Northeastern University, are reportedly top candidates for the job of interim chancellor at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, according to anonymous sources within the university, The Boston Globe reports.

University officials say they hope to appoint a temporary replacement for chancellor John V. Lombardi, who will become president of the Louisiana State University System on September 1, in the next two weeks while a hiring committee searches for his permanent successor, writes the reporter, Peter Schworm.
