U. of Colorado Cans Controversial Prof

The University of Colorado Board of Regents voted 8-1 Tuesday to fire Ward Churchill, the controversial ethnic-studies professor who six years ago who called victims of September 11 “little Eichmanns” and who was later found guilty of research misconduct by a university investigative panel, John Gravois reports today on the Chronicle Web site.

University officials cited plagiarism and research misconduct, rather than Churchill’s infamous words, as the reasons for his dismissal. However, Churchill and his supporters say the administration was just using that as an excuse to get rid of him, Gravois writes. Churchill has promised to sue the university.
