Tough Times in Tennessee

University of Tennessee President John D. Petersen told a UT Board of Trustees committee Wednesday that state economic woes could prompt the elimination of 700 jobs across the five-campus system, the Associated Press reports. Meanwhile, elsewhere in the state, the Tennessee Board of Regents, which oversees six state universities and the state’s two-year college system, voted to allow Chancellor Charles W. Manning to empower system presidents to layoff or furlough workers and cut salaries.
