Raises for the chiefs of four University of Wisconsin campuses have been put on hold thanks to the lousy economy, the Associated Press reports:
Chancellors in Milwaukee, Stevens Point, and Eau Claire, as well as the chancellor of the UW Colleges and UW Extension, were up for salary increases — ranging from 3.5 percent to nearly 5 percent — that were expected to get the thumbs up at a governing-board meeting today. However, David Giroux, a spokesman for the university system, told the AP that the board won’t discuss raises today because of “turmoil and uncertainty in our nation’s economy.” He said he didn’t know when the issue would be revisited, but he doubted it would be anytime soon.
