No Laughing Matter

April 11, 2008, 1:02 pm

I chuckled out loud when I read Undine’s brilliant post at Not of General Interest about the English department of the future. But since reading Thomas H. Benton’s recent Careers column about Marc Bousquet’s must-read book, How the University Works, on the ever-deteriorating economic conditions of academic labor and this report in the Wisconsin State Journal (thanks to FACE Talk’s Craig Smith for the link) about how Bousquet’s predictions are becoming a reality at the University of Wisconsin at Madison, I’ve stopped laughing.
