Dartmouth College has named Dr. Jim Yong Kim, chairman of the department of global health and social medicine at Harvard Medical School, as its next president, Karen Fischer reports on The Chronicle’s Web site. Kim, a physician known for his work in combatting AIDS and tuberculosis, will replace James Wright, who is stepping down on July 1 after more than a decade in the top post.
Pamela A. Eibeck, dean of the College of Engineering and professor of mechanical engineering at Texas Tech University, will become the first woman president of the University of the Pacific on July 1, the Sacramento Business Journal reports. She will succeed Donald V. DeRosa, who is retiring after 14 years at the university’s helm.
Columbia University has picked Michele M. Moody-Adams, a philosophy professor and vice-provost at Cornell University, to take over as the new dean of Columbia College on July 1. She’ll replace Austin E. Quigley, who is retiring. See a Columbia University press release for details.
Richard W. Lariviere, executive vice chancellor and provost at the University of Kansas, has been named the top finalist in the search for the next president of the University of Oregon, the News Blog reports. If he gets the nod from the Oregon State Board of Higher Education, he will replace David B. Frohnmayer on July 1.
