The Associated Press reports that Stanford University’s athletic department is trying to decide whether to slash its staff and ax some sports teams in response to a projected revenue loss of $5-million over the next three years.

Elsewhere in the state, at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, a professor is suing the university, claiming he was removed as head of the department of philosophy and religion for expressing concerns about a female professor who he said lied about her academic publications, the Chattanooga Times Free Press reports.
Jane Margaret “Maggie” O’Brien, president of St. Mary’s College of Maryland, said she plans to step down by 2010, The Baltimore Sun reports.
