Something Historiann did not mention but really happened: If you are the candidate,do not be rude to anyone and that includes waiters. If you treat those “beneath” you poorly, what does this portend for your students (or our much-beloved dept. secretary)? It shoudl go without saying that a search committee member who is rude should make any candidate double or even triple think accepting a job offer.
