Here’s the latest appointment news:

John D. Petersen, president of the University of Tennessee system, resigned abruptly on Wednesday, Paul Fain reports on The Chronicle’s Web site. Also see a story in The Tennessean.
University of Vermont officials are expected to announce layoffs on Friday, The Burlington Free Press reports.
Faculty members at the University of Missouri at St. Louis are angry with system president Gary Forsee for making sudden changes to the system’s retirement plan — requiring workers to contribute 1 to 2 percent of their salaries — without consulting with faculty and staff governance bodies first, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch’s education blog, The Grade.
A senior associate vice president at the University of South Florida is resigning after video footage of him helping to steal a student’s bicycle was posted on YouTube, The Chronicle’s Wired Campus reports.
