Florida Atlantic University will freeze hiring, restrict travel, and raise the temperature in campus buildings to deal with a state-set budget reduction of nearly $7-million, the South Florida Sun-Sentinal reports.
The reporter, Scott Travis, notes that nearly every department will be affected by the cuts — only the financial-aid and campus-police offices escaped the knife. No one has been fired, but about 40 jobs will remain vacant (30 of those are teaching jobs), he writes. In addition, some course sections with low enrollment may be cut, he concludes.
