The U.S. House of Representatives passed the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA), HR 3685 — which prohibits discrimination in the workplace on the basis of sexual orientation — yesterday by a margin of 235 to 184.
That’s good news, but unfortunately, as Lisa Takeuchi Cullen notes on Work in Progress, there’s bad news, too: The groundbreaking legislation leaves transgendered workers unprotected. And, of course, the whole exercise is moot because it’ll be a snowy day in Hades before the bill clears the Senate. And if by some miracle it does, President Bush will surely veto it.
