CU Fires Instructor

May 10, 2007, 11:54 am

Someone’s getting fired from the University of Colorado, and it isn’t Ward Churchill. It’s Phil Mitchell, an untenured history instructor, who first made headlines two years ago when he claimed that the university was canning him for his conservative political and religious views. News about his case quickly died down after the university denied firing him and because he had a contract to teach through 2006.

Last week, however, the university announced that it would not renew his contract after this year because he had failed to meet basic standards on his recent faculty evaluations (see a recent article in the Daily Camera). So now Mitchell is alleging discrimination again.

David Harsanyi, a conservative columnist for The Denver Post also covers the story and calls for further investigation.
