Best Places to Work for Postdocs, and Other Friday Reading

The Scientist has released the results of its annual survey on the best places to work for postdocs, Lila Guterman writes on The Chronicle’s News Blog.
Legislation that would have permitted graduate students and adjunct faculty members at Maryland’s public universities to unionize has died in the Maryland General Assembly and is being withdrawn from the state Senate (see a previous blog item), Audrey Williams June reports on the News Blog. Meanwhile, elsewhere in the Post, Nikita Stewart reports that the D.C. Council has passed the Accrued Sick and Safe Leave Act, making it the second city in the country to require employers to give workers paid sick leave.

By way of FACE Talk comes word that adjunct faculty members at Lincoln Land Community College, in Springfield, Ill., have voted to be represented by the Lincoln Land Community College Faculty Association/American Federation of Teachers.
