A Bad Week for Presidents

June 22, 2007, 2:58 pm

This hasn’t been a great week for college and university presidents:

According to a recent entry on The Chronicle’s News Blog, 20 professors at Eastern Michigan University have called on the Board of Regents to dismiss President John A. Fallon III. In a letter to the board, they accused Fallon of being “ill suited to run the university,” citing his poor response to the murder of an EMU student last December.

An article in the San Diego Union Tribune reports that MiraCosta College’s president, Victoria Muñoz Richart, resigned yesterday, following a tempestuous year “marked by lawsuits, three administrative departures, and a no-confidence vote in her leadership by the faculty.” See an article in The Chronicle for more details.

The president of Community College of Denver, Christine Johnson, was sacked this week after an audit revealed financial improprieties, according an article in The Denver Post. See this item on the News Blog for more.
