A new academic year is here, and with it comes a different job for me. I have moved into a new role at The Chronicle, as vice president and editorial director. Part of my job will be to help The Chronicle develop editorial innovations in the face of a changing publishing industry.
I also plan to report and write extensively on how higher education needs to change in the future. As a result, I have renamed this blog. “Next” will be part of my effort to start a conversation about the college of the future: admissions, the financial model, student aid, majors and academic programs, measuring student learning, online learning, leadership issues, faculty productivity, and so on.
There’s plenty of worry about the sustainability of the current model of higher education, and I hope we can use this space to suggest and debate potential new models.
