A growing number of people working in British universities report that they find their jobs to be stressful, according to a new survey by the national faculty union. In a survey by the University and College Union, which represents faculty, staff, and graduate students, 81 percent of union members working at universities responded yes to the question of whether they found their jobs stressful, compared with 74 percent in 2008.
The higher-education sector in Britain is facing wide-ranging changes, as the financing model shifts with the introduction next year of much higher tuition rates at many universities. In a statement, the faculty union expressed fears “that uncertainties over funding would add to stress levels in the future.”
