South Korea announced on Wednesday plans to increase its intake of foreign students by a quarter, to 100,000 by 2012, reports The Korea Times. The country will simplify visa procedures and slash mandatory health-insurance premiums for undergraduates. South Korea’s government is trying to make its insular higher-education system more competitive. Last week it proposed legislation aimed at making it easier for Korean colleges to open branch campuses abroad, says the newspaper.
