October 29, 2010, 1:56 pm

Human-rights groups are protesting the detention of two Russian professors for allegedly divulging state secrets while in China delivering guest lectures. The academics, Svyatoslav Bobyshev and Yevgeny Afanasyev, of Baltic State Technical University, in St. Petersburg, have been held without charge or trial since March, according to the Network for Education and Academic Rights and Scholars at Risk. The two professors, who specialize in gas dynamics, gave the lectures in a cooperative agreement between the Russian university and China’s Harbin Engineering University. They have denied any wrongdoing, reports The St. Petersburg Times.
