More than 40 scholars from around the world are protesting Iran’s crackdown on professors and students of the Bahai faith. In May, Iranian authorities detained individuals involved with the Bahá’í Institute for Higher Education, an informal network that was providing classes to Bahai students, who are essentially barred from attending universities. In a letter that was published in The Daily Telegraph and other newspapers, the scholars, many of whom study religion or philosophy, called for an end to the ban on the institute and for the release of its staff members from prison.
The signatories include Cornel West of Princeton University and Hilary Putnam of Harvard University.
